SFS provided design services for the renovation and expansion of St. Joseph Catholic Church and its parish ministry center. The project began with a feasibility study to explore options. Following evaluation of existing facilities, programming meetings were held with key stakeholders to confirm space needs for elements of the church, including liturgy, baptistry, liturgical art, music, narthex, bride’s room and gift shop. Concept design options with cost implications were generated for the worship space renovation, gathering space addition and parish center improvements. Renderings and other graphics were developed to support the Church’s capital campaign, which was successful.
The new glass-fronted, light-filled narthex of St. Joseph Catholic Church provides much needed gathering space for fellowship while acting as a beacon to the community. Featured in the new narthex are a bride’s room, which doubles as a cry room during mass, accessible restrooms, gift shop and a variety of seating areas. A new, covered main entrance, signage, walkway and landscaping add to the welcoming appeal of the church.
Within the sanctuary, new stained-glass windows, lighting, flooring, doors and pews enhance the existing worship space. A new ambo and an updated skylight above the altar create a focal point in the sanctuary. The choir occupies a new area in the sanctuary, with a new audio system and instruments to improve acoustics.
Upgrades to the parish center, housed in the former parish school building, include a new elevator, central air conditioning, replacement windows and an enclosed entrance.
