Lenexa Fire Station 3 & Police Substation

Lenexa, Kansas

This new campus-style public safety complex supports the Lenexa Fire Department's public safety mission in a rapidly growing suburban community. The facility’s three main functions are training, fire protection and police operations.

The training center comprises interior academic and exterior physical training spaces. The fire station includes three drive-thru apparatus storage bays, living quarters for up to 10 firefighters and EMS personnel, and firefighter support. The police function includes command personnel offices, break room, restrooms and showers for patrol officers, and short-term holding for arrestees. These three functions unite around a central exterior entry plaza, which evokes imagery of the surrounding natural landscape within the context of a municipal function. Glazing provides exterior views and natural light to illuminate the space.
