Jackson County hired SFS Architecture in 2021 to conduct a comprehensive facility condition assessment of their 23-story, 360,000 square foot courthouse to document deferred maintenance that could result in disruptions to day-to-day operations. The information gathered was built into a CMMS software database allowing the county to manage information, leverage data for capital planning budgeting, and effectively manage and maintain the courthouse. In addition, the county decided to remove all administrative functions from the courthouse to allow the building to house only court functions. This allowed other court departments to relocate from leased space to the courthouse for efficiencies. SFS worked with key stakeholders to understand their current and future space needs and understand deficiencies in their current space. SFS generated stacking alternatives that considered items such as department adjacencies and colocations, security requirements, public interface requirements and anticipated construction projects. A final recommendation was developed as part of a master plan with an estimate of probable cost and proposed phasing to allow occupancy during construction.
Under an On-Call Architectural Contract with Jackson County, SFS is providing a variety of architectural engineering services for improvements as recommended in the facility condition assessment. SFS is also currently preparing a master plan for the building.
See On-Call project sheet for details.
