Lee Hills Hall at University of Missouri

Columbia, Missouri

Lee Hills Hall offers students an all-digital newsroom, several design labs, a photography editing suite, lecture halls, seminar rooms, classrooms, faculty offices, conference rooms and lounges.  The 40,000 square foot facility, designed by SFS Architecture, is home of the Columbia Missourian newspaper, Vox magazine, IPI Global Journalist, and the Missourian’s digital edition EmPRINT, an innovative new digital publishing model that brings together the familiar qualities of printed newspapers with the interactive, multimedia features of the internet.

The facility's cutting-edge communication systems include a token ring network with category five cabling, fiber optics between floors and across campus, bay network routing, WAN microwave link and digital satellite communications.

Lee Hills Hall is located on the edge of the university’s historic red campus, so the firm selected materials that were compatible with the existing structures. Exterior features were carefully planned to tie the modern building in with the historic fabric of the campus. This was accomplished by utilizing a slate roof, red brick exterior and old-style vertical windows.  The hall also features a central vertical lantern that relates to the dome and cupola of Jesse Hall, the campus administration building.
