SFS collaborated with GSA's Heartland Region and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide an innovative, modern workspace for 99 employees — outfitted with furniture at no upfront cost to VA — all thanks to GSA's Furniture and Information Technology (FIT) program.
In 2016, VA administrative functions moved from a leased office into the federal building at 8930 Ward Parkway in Kansas City, Missouri. SFS provided project design and furniture specifications for the 10,000 square foot renovation. Our work included planning and design for demolition, new walls, paint, carpet, new HVAC and electrical systems, fire alarm, cooling tower, data center support spaces and telecommunications, among others. Our interiors team assisted with furniture requirements development, design and layout, furniture specifications and final selection of product and finishes. All furniture conforms with GSA FIT program guidelines.
The new office space offers a professional work area comprising 80 workstations, nine touchdown workstations and ten private offices, each ranging in size from 60 to 115 square feet. Some workstations are dedicated to individuals, while others are shared stations due to assignments requiring some staff to regularly work in the field.
By using the fledgling Total Workplace FIT program, the Public Buildings Service was able to provide the VA with an economical way to upgrade their space. This was the first FIT project in the Heartland Region.
