In 2013, the General Services Administration (GSA) launched the Total Workplace initiative to create a 21st-century workplace throughout the Federal Government. The initiative aimed at providing resources and expertise to help federal agencies reduce office space, foster collaboration, better manage IT spending, and increase energy efficiency. Since the launch of that initiative, SFS Architecture has collaborated with GSA and customer agencies throughout the United States to create high-performance workplaces that enable Federal agencies to execute their mission efficiently, sustainably and collaboratively.
As part of this initiative, SFS relocated more than 900 federal employees to GSA’s regional headquarters at 2 Pershing Square in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Under the firm’s IDIQ contract with GSA, SFS provided owner representative services, acting as the GSA’s agent and developing the Program of Requirements package, participating in site tours, visioning sessions, design charrettes, furniture workshops, LEED workshops, IT/ cabling workshops, and design intent review sessions for the GSA’s new workplace.
The team also developed RFQ packages for the procurement of new furniture and finishes and oversaw the installation of all FF&E components. SFS developed a final FF&E plan that incorporated both new and existing furniture, coordinated finishes with furniture, developed RFQ packages for the procurement of new furniture (workstations, desk chairs, conference and ancillary pieces) and finishes, and oversaw installation of FF&E components.
