Blue Surf Bay Waterpark has been awarded the Leading Edge Award by the World Waterpark Association (WWA). The award is given for innovation, creativity and excellence in the development of new themes, facilities and programs within the water attractions industry, and was announced at the organization's 44th annual trade show in Las Vegas.
The WWA stated in a release that the citation was given for the new indoor and outdoor aquatics facility's cutting-edge design and state-of-the-art facilities. SFS Architecture planned and designed the 61,000 square foot waterpark with aquatics designer Water Technology Inc. for users of all ages and abilities. Amenities include a stand-up slide, wave-ball pool, NinjaCross Course, and the only double-surf simulator in the Midwest.
The waterpark is located adjacent to the existing Blue Springs Fieldhouse (also designed by SFS) to share facilities and save on administrative costs. In April, the combined facilities were named the Carson Ross Community Recreation Complex in honor of former Mayor Carson Ross.
