Following a 2021 facility condition assessment conducted by SFS Architecture, Jackson County decided to remove all administrative functions from its courthouse to allow court departments in lease space to relocate to the courthouse for efficiencies. SFS worked with key stakeholders to understand the County’s current and future space needs and understand deficiencies in their current system. The team then generated stacking alternatives that considered items such as department adjacencies and co-locations, security requirements, public-interface requirements and anticipated construction projects. A final recommendation was developed by SFS as part of a masterplan with an estimate of probable cost and proposed phasing to allow occupancy during construction.
The County moved ahead with the recommendation and purchased a Class A office building less than one mile from the courthouse for their new administration building. The building features 83,000 square feet across three floors and an underground parking garage. Existing building improvements include structural modifications, roof replacement, exterior facade cleaning and repainting, HVAC, interior tenant and site improvements, and renovation of the parking structure. SFS will assist the County in moving administration departments currently located in the courthouse on floors 1 and 1M to the new building.
