Basehor Police Station

Having outgrown its space at Basehor City Hall, SFS assisted the Basehor Police Department with a site evaluation and space needs study for a potential new Police Department facility within the city. SFS developed a space needs program identifying all current operational needs of the departments involved, as well as anticipated growth for the next 20 years. Programmed elements include administrative space, investigations, patrol operations, courtroom and support services, evidence and property, processing and storage, conference and community rooms, locker rooms, interview and interrogation rooms, and an indoor firing range. Sufficient parking for the public and secure parking for employees and department vehicles was also assessed.

The city subsequently purchased an existing 5,200 square foot office building to be utilized by the department. The city also purchased one acre of land to the west of the building for which SFS provided a master plan concept anticipating department growth, future firing range, and potential co-location of city council and municipal courts functions. SFS assisted the city with program confirmation and provided full architecture, engineering and construction administration services to transform the existing building into the Basehor Police Station. The new station includes a training room, interview rooms, evidence storage and processing that meets proper chain of custody requirements and CALEA standards. Associated site work included new drives and covered parking for patrol vehicles to accommodate 20 sworn officers, civilian staff and marked department vehicles.
