Strang Park Improvements

Overland Park, Kansas

As part of a multi-disciplined team, SFS is working with the City of Overland Park and community on planned improvements for the 11-acre Strang Park. Through several public meetings, the design team gained feedback on desired amenities for Strang Park, including the playground, entry plaza, pickleball courts, basketball courts, trails, parking lot, restrooms and shelters.

Park structures designed by SFS for the initial phase of the project include a new park restroom building, shelter structures and entry plaza. Along with a lawn game and porch swing seating, the entry plaza features Strang Line components as well as existing historical signage. The architectural design for both the restroom and shelters is inspired by original elements of the Strang Line Railroad.

Additional park improvements include a climbing component at the playground, a toddler area, seating, pickleball and basketball courts, a new trail, and reconstruction of the existing parking lot.
