Heckart Community Recreation & Aquatic Center

The SFS team worked with the City’s core team, including the construction manager, to develop preliminary plans and concept design for a new community center. As part of the planning effort, the team refined the space program (previously developed by SFS in a 2016 feasibility study), developed site and building concepts, prepared cost information and generated marketing material and images for presentation to the public prior to the August 2019 referendum, which passed overwhelmingly.

The 78,000 square foot multi-purpose community center will feature facility administration space, a community events/convention hall and commercial kitchen, the Sedalia Senior Center, child watch area, arts and crafts room, aerobics/dance studio, gymnasium with basketball/volleyball/pickleball courts, an elevated running/walking track, weights and fitness area, party rooms and indoor aquatics. A health and wellness center is also planned.
