Fairway City Hall (Churchill Building)

Fairway, KS

A renovated 5,700 square foot retail building transformed into a new City Hall

SFS Architecture + Phillco Construction collaborated with the Fairway City Council to transform the former Churchill retail/warehouse building into a new City Hall. The adaptive reuse of this historically significant building incorporates many of the building’s existing architectural, structural and aesthetic elements. Existing building materials were also incorporated into the design, including granite countertops at the clerk’s windows that were part of the Churchill space. In addition, the majority of furniture, fixtures, equipment and audio-visual systems were reused from the previous City Hall. A new elevator was installed to allow access to the basement, first and second floor.  The joint Council Chambers/Municipal Court space was designed to also provide additional conferencing space and to serve as a multipurpose community event space.
