Manufacturing facility transformed into modern, high-tech training center for firefighters and EMS personnel

SFS collaborated with Central Jackson County Fire Protection District (CJCFPD) stakeholders to transform a manufacturing facility into a high-tech training center for firefighters and EMS personnel. The renovated facility includes a 125-seat tiered, U-shaped lecture room, flexible breakout classrooms, office space, wellness center assist with physical readiness, four bay areas for all district vehicle repairs/maintenance, storage, and a simulated Command Center Training and EMS anatomical condition simulator. Technology is integrated throughout the education spaces, including drop-down projection, backlit glass marker boards and full A/V capabilities to support demonstrations and presentations. Within a limited budget, the team created a dramatic transformation by incorporating economical design features, including simple industrial materials such as corrugated metal light clouds in the entry and lecture hall backdrop. Durable, low-maintenance materials and finishes, a timeless color palette, and master planning for future growth provides a facility that will serve district needs for many years. The facility also provides an additional revenue stream for the district by allowing other community organizations and fire departments to rent the training space.
