An Interview with Molly

What’s a project you’re excited about that’s currently in the works?

The Thompson Center in Columbia, MO. This clinical and research facility for individuals with autism and neurodevelopmental disorders is currently under construction and is set to open in the spring of 2026.

I worked with a great team here at SFS and am excited to see this building finished!

How do you stay inspired or creative in your work?

I get inspired by the people and purpose behind each project—every space and building has its own story. I also find a lot of inspiration through fashion and the latest innovative designs through materiality, furniture, lighting, etc.

What inspired you to pursue a career in architecture/interior design?

It is hard to pinpoint the exact moment that I said, 'I want to be an interior designer!' I have always loved art, interiors, architecture, and design for as long as I can remember.

When I was in high school, I knew I wanted to go to K- State and saw they had an Interior Design program and as I researched more about what being an interior designer is all about, I instantly knew this was the path I was supposed to take.

We have a responsibility as architects and interior designers to protect occupants and consumers through code compliancy, accessibility, as well as addressing well-being through thoughtful and impactful design for people.

Do you have a hobby or passion outside of work?

My husband and I bought a house last year and have been renovating it ourselves. We have really enjoyed the process, even the frustrating moments! I also love spending time outside and taking my dog, Milo, to parks and trails around KC.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

This would be a tie between Italy or Denmark. Both are incredible countries with lots of history, incredible design and architecture, and food!
