This afternoon representatives from the City of Blue Springs, Missouri gathered for the grand opening of the Blue Surf Bay Waterpark, a new indoor and outdoor aquatics facility for users of all ages and abilities.
The indoor aquatic center is housed in a 14,000 square foot natatorium that houses a 25-yard lap pool with overhead obstacle course, rock wall for climbing and cliff diving, indoor splash pad, program pool with a current channel, hot tub and steam sauna. The outdoor aquatics center features a 600-foot lazy river, double surf simulator, wave pool, kids pool and massive water slides. The surf simulator is the only one of its kind in the Midwest. Amenities include an extensive pool deck with rental cabanas, elevated observation sun deck, party rooms and universal changing facilities.
The project represents SFS Architecture’s most recent collaboration with the city. In 2020, Blue Springs tapped SFS to lead a study to determine the community’s indoor and outdoor aquatic needs. In 2021, SFS lead a team to design a multi-generational waterpark adjacent to the Blue Springs Fieldhouse, also designed by SFS and opened in 2015, to allow for joint use of facilities and save on administrative costs. In April, the combined facilities were named the Carson Ross Community Recreation Complex in honor of former Mayor Carson Ross.
SFS attended the ceremony and reception to celebrate the occasion and give congratulations to the entire project team.
