18th and Broadway Food Pantry Garden
This year, SFS participated in the 18th and Broadway Food Pantry Garden. The goal of this project is to educate and inspire visitors on the use of the space and how to tend their own gardens. Volunteers from other Kansas City organizations and businesses maintain 81 high intensity food production plots on the site’s lower tier. All food grown is donated to Harvester’s Community Food Network of Kansas City. The garden’s design demonstrates sustainability through renewable energy, storm water management and food production.
Our team maintains five beds on the lower tier at the northwest corner, just below Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. our beds included tomatoes, beets, cucumbers, carrots and squash.
