A master plan developed by SFS Architecture for Johnson County’s acclaimed Theatre in the Park will modernize the outdoor performing arts venue. The $26 million renovation will substantially increase the stage from 19,000 square feet to 33,000 square feet. An overhang and enclosed stage box will enclose the stage and a limited number of audience members, making it possible to offer shows for as many as 500 people in rainy weather. Expansions also include a mix of fixed seating, terraced lawn seating and open lawn seating, and a new entrance.
Parking will be relocated and expanded to enhance the arrival and departure experience. The concept developed by SFS keeps the stage in its current location but moves and expands parking from the current 350 spaces to 860.
