International Woman’s Day

Women are an equal part of our population but unequal part of our profession. The American Institute of Architects reports that almost half of the students enrolled in architecture programs in the United States are women, yet only 17 percent of registered architects are.[1] Even less are in leadership positions.

At SFS Architecture, we enrich communities through meaningful collaborations and purposeful design. We can only do so with a workforce representative of the population we serve — we can only do so with women in our workplace. March 8 is International Woman’s Day, so we’re celebrating the women at SFS who lead collaborative dialogues, envision responsive design solutions, and deliver beautiful architecture.

At present, women make up 54 percent of our firm’s workforce, 47 percent of our licensed architects, and 50 percent of our leadership. We achieved these figures by going beyond annual International Woman’s Day and Woman’s History Month posts online, but by rolling up our sleeves to plan and implement our commitment to equal pay for equal work and flexible work hours.
