- Develop interior concepts that support SFS’s mission of designing spaces that enrich people, organizations, and communities.
- Prepare finish palettes, material selections, furniture plans, lighting concepts, signage and wayfinding input, and interior detailing.
- Create presentations, finish boards, renderings, specifications, and other client-facing materials.
- Coordinate closely with architects, project managers, consultants, contractors, vendors, and owners.
- Support public-sector and institutional projects that require durable, accessible, sustainable, maintainable, and community-responsive interiors.
- Lead FF&E design, budgeting, procurement coordination, vendor communication, and installation review.
- Produce and review interior design documentation in Revit and related design software.
- Mentor emerging interior designers and contribute to a collaborative studio culture.
- Participate in client interviews, project pursuits, and design presentations as needed.
- Help maintain SFS’s standards for design quality, documentation, coordination, and client service.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of professional interior design experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or related field.
- NCIDQ certification preferred.
- IIDA, ASID, LEED, WELL, Fitwel, or other relevant credentials are a plus.
- Experience with civic, public-sector, academic, recreation, workplace, worship, justice, public safety, or community-based projects preferred.
- Strong knowledge of interior materials, finishes, furniture systems, specifications, codes, accessibility, sustainability, and construction documentation.
- Experience leading interior design on projects from early planning through construction administration.
- Proficiency in Revit required; experience with Enscape, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office preferred.
- Strong communication, presentation, organization, and client relationship skills.
- Ability to balance design excellence with durability, budget, schedule, maintenance, and public-use requirements.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work across disciplines in an integrated architecture and interiors studio.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a confident, thoughtful, and technically strong interior designer who understands that SFS’s projects often serve communities, public agencies, institutions, and mission-driven organizations. They bring curiosity, empathy, and design leadership to spaces that must be welcoming, durable, functional, inclusive, and lasting.
They are comfortable designing for a broad range of users, from city staff and courthouse visitors to recreation center patrons, students, first responders, worship communities, workplace teams, and the general public.
