Salina Fieldhouse

Salina Fieldhouse

Salina, Kansas

The Downtown Salina Fieldhouse is more than simply a recreation center. The 65,000 square foot indoor, multi-season, multi-sport fieldhouse not only provides much needed space for community recreation, youth and adult sports tournaments and special events, but is also projected to play a key role in the revitalization of the community’s downtown district.

Based on existing information provided by the City, the SFS team conducted interactive program confirmation sessions to build consensus and develop conceptual construction costs for the fieldhouse to be located in Downtown Salina. The team prepared schematic design options for the site and building, including a 3 dimensional model to illustrate the scale and function of the building. Upon selection of the preferred option, the team further developed the design for use in a Community Open House.

The layout features three hardwood and three synthetic (six total) basketball courts, which convert into eight volleyball courts. This space can also transform into a 20,000 square foot turf area for one regulation indoor soccer or flag football field. Drop down batting cages and pitching tunnels are also featured. Basketball, volleyball, cheer, dance, kickball, wrestling, baseball, softball, dodgeball and futsal are just a few of the many activities that the Salina Fieldhouse accommodates.

Key criteria for the fieldhouse include flexibility, playability, integration with Downtown Development, sustainability, affordability, the existing program model, and other important stakeholder issues.
