Meadowbrook Park Activity Center

Meadowbrook Park Activity Center

Prairie Village, Kansas

An activity center that serves as a gateway to a park and vibrant mixed-use community

The 88-acre Meadowbrook Park is part of a larger redevelopment effort aimed at transforming the former Meadowbrook Golf and Country Club into a vibrant mixed-use community. The park includes a variety of active and passive recreational amenities. Architectural elements designed by SFS include an activity center, grand pavilion, restroom building and three picnic shelters.

The 12,000 square foot Meadowbrook Park Activity Center is sited on the footprint of the original golf course clubhouse. The building’s main entrance is flanked by the Grand Pavilion shelter. Arriving in this in-between space, visitors find a grand stair, a gateway and threshold from the man-made opening into the sculpted natural elements of the park. Featuring a public access Event Space, Multi-purpose Classroom, and Early Childhood Development Center, this distinguished building is clad in limestone, cedar and weathering-steel. To pay homage to the history of the site, the interior was designed to subtly celebrate the love of golf.
