Transformation of an 18-hole golf course into a premier community park

A robust community engagement process helped designers craft a vision for transforming an 18-hole golf course into a dynamic community park.  New amenities designed for Lake Olathe Park include a fishing pier, marina and swimming beach, restroom building, event venue and renovated shelter. Though each building has its own specific function, building forms and material applications unite them with other lake/park structures, land forms and signage, creating an overall consistency between the architecture and the park landscape. By integrating native stone, expanses of glass and openness, overlooks, decks, and pathways, the structures provide a strong visual connection to both ground and water.

The Landing, a 6,500 square foot, 200-person event venue with catering kitchen + bar, private dining or bridal preparation space, and restrooms boasts picturesque views, an outdoor deck overlooking Lake Olathe and a wood-burning fireplace. Additional park amenities include an amphitheater, interactive water features, trails, and landscaping. (SFS as architect of record to confluence.)
