    Lee's Summit, MO

Modern, sustainable city hall building, that reflects historic downtown context

Design a new City Hall building and parking structure that reflects city leaders’ desire to create a citizen-centered, service-oriented atmosphere and provide inspiring work spaces for city staff.

SFS led a highly interactive charrette and design process involving City of Lee’s Summit staff, elected officials and local citizens to identify user goals and design priorities, including the need for the structures to demonstrate environmental stewardship and relate visually to the historic context of downtown Lee’s Summit.

The resulting 76,000 SF City Hall accommodates multiple city departments, council chambers, public service lobbies, an outdoor plaza for civic events, and an adjacent four-level parking structure. Materials, scale, detail, and massing were used to integrate the new facilities seamlessly into the historic downtown context, creating an inviting and open image while incorporating building security and technology needs. Sustainable elements including solar water heating, occupant-sensored lighting/mechanical systems, detained storm water for irrigation and renewable/recycled materials were also incorporated.
