Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center
Transformation of the iconic King Louie entertainment center into a dynamic hub for cultural arts and community gathering
Create a compelling, cost-effective and sustainable plan for repositioning the 1950s era bowling alley and ice chateau as a multipurpose County facility.
Engaged representatives from the County’s Facilities Management team and the groups slated to occupy the repurposed facility in interactive workshops. These workshops focused on building consensus for a plan to bring together seemingly disparate programs under one roof to achieve the County’s vision for a cultural arts, heritage and community center.
The new Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center preserves an iconic building in the community while meeting the County’s needs for a multipurpose community center with office, classroom, and events space, a flexible black box theatre for the County’s popular Theatre in the Park program and a new home for the County Museum.
